Introduction

Preparing our students for success is the pivotal goal of Atlanta Metropolitan State College (AMSC). AMSC has a history of educating students from diverse backgrounds and providing career focused bachelor's and associate degree programs. With the accelerated, continuous changes in industry and technology, it is essential that AMSC is forward thinking in preparing our students to effectively compete in a global interconnected marketplace.

Objective

Our objective is to develop an enriched learning and career environment that fosters student retention, timely progression, graduation, and advancement for student success, exceeding student expectations.

Goals

Goal #1:

Review the current academic portfolio and develop at least one new competitive and innovative high demand program each year for emerging industry demands, while fostering strong industry partnerships.

Action Steps:

  • Utilize external and internal institutional research analysis and conduct stakeholder surveys and interviews.
  • Create an academic portfolio that reflects institutional priorities.
  • Access industry demand and identify relevant partners to support student experience.
  • Develop cooperative education curriculum and internship programs.
  • Create and update academic programs (each year) that align with current industry demands.
  • Promote academic programs through targeted marketing campaigns.

Metrics and/or Deliverables:

  • Number of new programs
  • Number of students enrolled in the new programs
  • Academic performance (GPA and course competition rates)
  • Retention, progression, and graduation rates
  • First-time full-time rates
  • Percentage of inquiries to completed certificate program applications

Goal #2:

Expand continuing education offerings to address student certifications and credentials.

Action Steps:

  • Increase continuing education offering to include a focus on high-demand credentials or certifications for working adults.
  • Establishing benchmarks with measurable outcomes.
  • Conduct surveys to assess learning and course needs.
  • Revitalize the AMSC website to promote continuing education offerings.

Goal #3:

Empower student success through a comprehensive and collaborative institutional care management model that integrates curricular and co-curricular support.

Action Steps:

  • Conduct an in-depth assessment of AMSC student population to identify student's academic and non-academic needs and barriers threatening progress and graduation.
  • Implement a Customer Relation Manager (CRM) to provide student data-driven predictive analytics, proactive / early intervention, progression tracking and personalized support.
  • Develop, implement and direct a coordinated retention program focused on early intervention strategies and personalized support plans for first year and at-risk students under the direction of a new Chief Retention Officer (CRO) and Retention Care Teams.
  • Expand and enhance curricular requirements and support services to favorably impact student retention, persistence and on-time graduation.
  • Develop co-curricular support programs and activities for students.
  • Create a Wellness and Belonging Center to support student physical and mental health and wellness.
  • Establish AMSC Career Service Center for career advisement, planning and development to enable students to successfully pursue careers and entrepreneurship after graduation and provide informative career placement data.
