Atlanta Metropolitan State College Scholarships

Atlanta Metropolitan State College provides scholarships to support the success of AMSC students. These scholarships are to (1) attract new high performing students to AMSC, (2) support students who have unmet financial need after they exhaust Federal and State financial sources, and reward and acknowledge students for their academic merit and achievement.

AMSC Childcare Access Mean Parents In School Program (AMSC CCAMPIS)

The Atlanta Metropolitan State College Childcare Access Mean Parents in School (AMSC CCAMPIS) Program is a childcare tuition assistance program funded by the U.S. Department of Education and administered by Atlanta Metropolitan State College and Quality Care for Children (QCC).

The AMSC CCAMPIS Program provides consumer education and childcare scholarships to help parents who are pursuing their undergraduate degree.

The program's main goals are to support student- parents and ensure that children are educated in a quality-enriched environment while their parents attend class.

Qualifying first-year students, sophomores, juniors, and seniors enrolled at Atlanta Metropolitan State College, who have children ages 0- 12, may be eligible to receive an AMSC CCAMPIS Program scholarship for up to $200 per week per eligible family to cover costs associated with quality childcare.

Requirements:

Parent Eligibility:

  1. Parent must be a student at Atlanta Metropolitan State College.
  2. Parent must be working towards their first bachelor's degree.
  3. Parent must have an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher.
  4. Parent must be eligible for the Pell Grant.
  5. Parent must be enrolled Full-Time (at least 12 credit hours per semester).
  6. Parent's must first apply to CAPS and receive a denial of services. This denial is to be submitted in the application portal and must be submitted in order to apply for the Childcare Grant.
  7. Parent must be a resident of Georgia.

Child Eligibility:

  1. Child must be between 0 and 12 years old.
  2. Child is not receiving CAPS.
  3. Child must be a resident of Georgia.
  4. Attending a child care program (or will be enrolled in a child care program) that is Quality Rated or in the process of becoming Quality Rated.

Award Details:

Students will be selected based on need-based criteria and is specifically designed for Pell eligible parenting students.

AMSC TRIO Student Support Services-STEM

TRIO Student Support Services STEM (SSS-STEM) at Atlanta Metropolitan State College (AMSC) is a federal outreach programs designed to motivate and support students from disadvantaged backgrounds in their pursuit of a college degree.

The primary goals of Student Support Services-STEM are to increase student's retention, enhance student's progression and to boost student's graduation rates at AMSC.

Students who may benefit from need-based scholarships should complete the Free Application for Federal Financial Aid (FAFSA) since data from the FAFSA is used to verify eligibility for need-based financial scholarships.

Grant Aid

Grant Aid awards are based on need.

  1. Active participant in Student Support Services STEM-(SSS-STEM) Program
  2. GPA of 2.0 or greater
  3. Recipient of Federal Pell Grant (#84.063)

AMSC Veteran Benefits Program

"Atlanta Metropolitan State College is a Military-Friendly Colleges"

Atlanta Metropolitan State College is proud to offer post-secondary opportunities for military members. Offering career options to meet the needs of military members. AMSC offers six bachelor's and two associate's academic programs, as well as several program pathways, including certificates. Classes are offered both online and on-campus, during the day, evening to accommodate the work and schedules of military members. Atlanta Metro understands the needs of adult learners and has designed academics accommodating those needs.

GI Bill Educational Benefits Programs

The following VA GI Bill Educational Benefit programs are in place at Atlanta Metropolitan State College

  • Post 9/11 GI Bill/Chapter 33: must have active-duty service on or after September 11, 2001. Benefit is based on service credits.
  • Montgomery GI Bill/Chapter 30: (active duty or veteran status) must have served in the United States Armed Forces and participated in the GI Bill program. In most instances, veterans must also have been honorably discharged.
  • VA Vocational Rehabilitation/Chapter 31: (service-connected disabled veterans) must make application with local VA caseworker to have rehabilitation plan developed indicating an AMSC degree plan.
  • Survivors and Dependents' Educational Assistance Program/ Chapter 35: (dependents and spouses of 100% disabled or deceased Veterans).
  • Montgomery GI Bill/Chapter 1606: (selected guard and reserves) must have completed all initial entry training (IET) and are now assigned to a Reserve and/or a Georgia National Guard Unit. Atlanta Metropolitan State College scholarships are one of several ways to fund your education. Others funding options include:

  • State Scholarships - AMSC participates in the Hope and Zell Miller scholarship programs and the Hope Grant program. More information about these is available on the Georgia Student Finance Commission website.

  • External Scholarships - Students may qualify for third-party scholarships through companies, foundations, civic and religious organizations, their parents'/family's employers, and their own employer's tuition benefits.

  • High school counselors, GAfutures and other free internet sites are excellent resources for researching and applying for these opportunities. Please note that third-party scholarships may factor into your overall eligibility for financial aid and Columbus State-based university scholarships.

Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP)

The AMSC LSAMP Program is funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation, which supports alliances of colleges and universities to increase the number of underrepresented minority students who earn STEM degrees and pursue graduate studies or careers in STEM. The grant funds specific programming and activities to assist students in their academic success, research experiences, and professional development. The grant also provides stipends, supplies, and travel funds for students and their research advisors. The LSAMP grant has different project types and eligibility criteria depending on the alliance and the institution.

Health Careers Opportunity Program (HCOP)

The AMSC Health Careers Opportunity Program (HCOP) is a federal program that provides grants to projects that help students from disadvantaged backgrounds pursue and succeed in health or allied health professions. The AMSC HCOP is a collaborative between Atlanta Metropolitan State College and Emory University.

Requirements:

To participate in the HCOP program, students must be a Health or Science major and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7.

Award Details:

The program aims to increase the diversity and quality of the health workforce by supporting the development of skills and competencies needed to enter and graduate from health professions schools. STATE SCHOLARSHIPS

HOPE Scholarship

HOPE Scholarship provides students with state funds for tuition. The tuition award amount is determined annually by the Georgia Student Finance Commission as a "per credit hour rate" which is published on their website.

Zell Miller Scholarship

Zell Miller Scholarship pays full standard tuition for students who earned a 3.7 GPA (un-weighted) for all academic high school classes and earned at least a 1200 in one sitting on the Math and Verbal section of the SAT or at least a 26 on the ACT. Students who are Valedictorian or Salutatorian of their class are automatically eligible for Zell Miller Scholarship.

Dual Enrollment

ZDual Enrollment is a program funded by the State of Georgia to assist high school students in paying for college-credit coursework. Funding for Dual Enrollment covers only courses listed in the approved Dual Enrollment Course Directory which the student will receive dual credit for high school and college degree-level.

Georgia Hero Scholarship

The Georgia HERO Scholarship program provides educational scholarship assistance to members of the Georgia National Guard and U.S. Military Reservists who served in combat zones, and the children and the spouses of such members of the Georgia National Guard and U.S. Military Reserves.

Students who feel they qualify for this scholarship must complete Part A of the Hero Scholarship application and submit the completed application and all requested documentation to the AMSC Financial Aid Office. When your application is complete, the Financial Aid Office completes section B of the application and submits it to the Georgia Student Finance Commission regarding eligibility status.

Georgia Public Safety Memorial Grant

The Georgia Public Safety Memorial (GPSM) Grant provides grant funds to the dependent children of Georgia Public Safety Officers who were permanently disabled or killed in the line of duty. Funds may be used towards the cost of attendance at eligible colleges, universities or technical colleges in Georgia.
