2012-2013
Miss Atlanta Metropolitan State College ~ Alyssa Shields
Ms. Shields is originally from Rantoul, Illinois. She grew up with her mother, father and three brothers. At the age of twelve she and her family moved to Atlanta where she furthered her love for nature and preserving the environment. She started an environmental awareness program at her church that not only recycles reusable materials like glass, plastic and paper, but also coats, shoes and furniture.
Ms. Shields was instrumental in starting a children's choir and she also teaches children's classes on Sundays. She is a Sophomore Biology major who plans to graduate with her Bachelor’s Degree from AMSC completing the new B.S. program in 2015.
As Miss AMSC, Alyssa plans to make students more aware of their environment and how to become a more active participant in preserving it, as well as providing volunteer opportunities for students to give back to the community. She enjoys horseback riding, playing tennis, yoga, cooking, hanging out with her friends and family and playing the piano.
Mr. Atlanta Metropolitan State College –
Robert N. Warner, Jr.
Mr. Warner is from Atlanta, Georgia and is a Biology Major at Atlanta Metropolitan State College. Mr. Warner is a person that believes in himself no matter what he encounters in life. He has aspirations of becoming a dentist.
Robert has proven himself on and off campus. He is an Atlanta Metropolitan Programming (AMP) Board Member and he is also a member of the MESA program. Robert has been facing challenges since the age of four when his father passed away but these challenges have not adversely impacted his motivation.
Giving back to his community has always been an important aspect in his life. Robert takes pride in being involved in his community. At Collier Heights Park, he was the Camp Counselor. Robert is also involved in “Densent Temple” Church, where he attends every Sunday. Currently, he is a deacon in training.
As Mr. AMSC, he plans to make students more aware of their health and how to maintain good health, as well as incorporating physical fitness sessions so that students can learn the proper way to workout.
He enjoys playing basketball, listening to music, hanging out with his friends and family, and debating on important topics.
