Recent Updates

Updated Monday, March 16, 2020 - Atlanta Metropolitan State College (AMSC) is carefully monitoring coronavirus (COVID-19) updates and will utilize this webpage to keep its students, faculty, and staff informed of the latest developments and future steps AMSC will take. Moveover, AMSC has put in place the necessary proactive steps to ensure that faculty, staff, and students are prepared for future measures associated with COVID-19. The health and safety of AMSC's faculty, staff, and students are of the highest prioriy.

Individuals who experience symptoms of illness, particularly those running a fever, coughing, and shortness of breath (or difficulty breathing) should contact their medical care provider, and should not return to campus until releasted to do so by their healthcare provider. Students should notify their professor(s) if they are unable to attend classes, and faculty/staff should contact their supervisor if they are unable to report to work due to COVID-19 exposure or related activities.

AMSC will continue to monitor and closely follow COVID-19 developments. AMSC will follow COVID-19 guidelines as provided by the Georgia Department of Health (GDH), the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Univeristy System of Georgia. This page will be updated when there is impact or changes to AMSC's programs, services, and activities associated with the coronavirus.

Class Information and Assistance

  • All AMSC classes are suspended beginning March 16, 2020 through March 29, 2020. On March 30, 2020, all AMSC classes will reconvene and be taught online. More specific details will be emailed to students, as well as posted on this webpage. Please monitor this webpage frequently for further details.
  • The primary communication with students is the AMSC students' email account. Students should check this webpage and their AMSC email accounts regularly throughout the day for COVID-19 updates related to the programs and services of AMSC.
  • If you are ill, you should stay home to prevent the spread of the illiness.
  • There will be no academic penalties for students who are quarantined.
  • Instructors of online classes will communcate with students through their AMSC student email accounts, and students are asked to communicate with instructors through the same communication method. Current online classes will operate as usual.
  • Students should contact the class instructor, utilizing the contact information on the class syllabus, should they need assistance.

Employee and Campus Announcements

  • Employees who are ill should notify their supervisors and stay home to prevent spread of the illiness.
  • Telework will be approved on a case-by-case basis by office supervisors.
  • Atlanta Metropolitan State College is working with its cleaning service to provide enhanced cleaning.
  • Employees are encouraged to supplement the normal cleaning services by cleaning his/her workspace and event space with disinfectant wipes and sprays.

The CDC & GDH recommends you:

  • follow appropriate preventative measures, including: (1) wash hands with soap and water regularly for at least 20 seconds, (2) avoid touching your face (e.g., eyes, nose, and mouth) (3) cough and sneeze into your elbow or into tissue.
  • avoid contact with people exposed to COVID-19.
  • stay at home, except to get medical care, if you are sick.
  • wear a facemask if you are sick.
  • clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily. This includes tables, door nobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets, and sinks. If surfaces are dirty, clean them. Use detergent or soap and water prior to disinfection.
  • disinfect surfaces: Most common EPA-registered household disinfectants will work. Use disinfectants appropriate for the surface. Options include: (1) diluting your household bleach. To make a bleach solution, mis: 5 tablespoons (1/3rd cup) bleach per gallon of water OR 4 teaspoons bleach per quart of water, (2) Alcohol solutions. Ensure solutions has a least 70% alcohol, and Other coom EPA-registered household disinfectants. Click here for more CDC details.
