Enrollment Climbs to 3,037 at Atlanta Metropolitan State College

Atlanta, GA ( November 15, 2010) ‐ Atlanta Metropolitan State College’s (AMSC) Fall 2010 enrollment reached 3,037 students, representing the largest enrollment in the institutions history. According to the Fall 2010 Semester Enrollment Report released by the University System of Georgia, Atlanta Metropolitan’s 13 percent enrollment increase from Fall 2009 to Fall 2010 is the 2nd highest percentage increase among all the 35 USG institutions. Other characteristics of Atlanta Metropolitan’s enrollment include:

 2,803 or just over 92 percent of students are Georgia residents,
 60.8 percent of students are enrolled full time,
 560 students are classified as beginning freshmen and
 920 students are classified as non‐traditional undergraduates.

According to AMSC President McGaha, “He attributed the influx of students to a combination of factors, including rapid changes in technology, the economic downturn and the desire of employees to improve skills.”

To accommodate the growing student body, a new state of the art $14 million Academic Sciences Building project is expected to begin later this year. In addition, a 37,000 sq ft expansion to the existing student activity center will be completed by April 2012. The new Academic Sciences Building and the expansion of the Student Center along with a Department of Transportation Project which will change the front entrance are expected to enhance the image of AMSC. These changes will also provide the institution with a new public face and a visual connection between the campus and the community.
