In accordance with Title IX, Atlanta Metropolitan State College prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in all educational activities and athletics programs including admission, recruitment, academics, athletic teams and activities, facilities, extra-curricular activities, financial assistance, employment, career assistance, and physical education. Through policy and procedure, AMSC collaborates within and between College departments and organizations to educate students, faculty and staff on gender equity and to promote awareness of College policies and procedures designed to ensure compliance to Title IX.

AMSC has appointed a Title IX Coordinator to effectively facilitate the Title IX process adhering to the AMSC Sexual Misconduct Policy. The Title IX Coordinator provides support to all areas of the College ensuring compliance requirements are followed by Title IX related to the section of the federal law under the Higher Education Act in educational institutions. Title IX

What Is Title IX?

Title IX specifically prohibits sexual misconduct (including sexual violence), sex discrimination (gender bias), sexual harassment, and retaliation. No Sexual Harassment

Sexual harassment is unwelcome sex-based nonverbal, verbal, physical conduct that is sufficiently severe, persistent or pervasive that it unreasonably interferes with, denies or limits someone’s ability to participate in or benefit from AMSC’s educational programs and/or activities. It can include a power differential (quid pro quo), the creation of a hostile environment, or retaliation.

Non-consensual contact is any intentional sexual touching, however slight, by a male or female upon another male or female that is without consent and/or by force. Consent is a free and clearly given “yes”, not the absence of a “no”, and cannot be given or received when a person is incapacitated by alcohol, drugs, or disability.

Title IX Values

Fairness

We believe that fairness is essential to the judicial process. Every student involved in a student conduct matter should expect to be treated with respect and empathy, given the opportunity to communicate their perspective without prejudice. We strive to engage in a consistent conduct process for students, faculty, and staff focusing on a timely, fair, and impartial resolution.

Honesty

We believe honesty is vital to the resolution of student conduct disputes, personal growth, and moral development. We believe honesty in selection of choice is instrumental to the personal and professional learning process.

Integrity

We believe that integrity is of upmost importance in expectations. Therefore, strive to be held accountable to high expectations and to promote a judicial system that symbolizes the values of fairness, honesty, and integrity.
