"Bridging the Barriers to College"
Atlanta Metropolitan State College (AMSC) is proud to provide post-secondary opportunities for high school students. Early, consistent, and continuous intervention is the key to success. The Bridge to College & Careers Program (BCC) provides structured support programs and services to high school students beginning as early as the 9th grade, throughout their high school experience. The collaboraton between college, high school, and parents provides the support network to ensure student success, and BCC engages these stakeholders in all phases of its programs and services. Following is a description of the BCC program.
Services
Most opportunities in higher education require high stakes placement testing, therefore it is important that high school students have both the content and strategies for performing well on high stakes tests such as ACCUPLACER, SAT, and ACT.
- ACCUPLACER, SAT/ACT Test Prep - BCC utilizes a rigorous and personalized strategy for preparing high school students for success on ACCUPLACER and SAT/ACT tests. The objective of BCC test prep clasess is to reinforce and align the subject content that students learned in their high school classes with critical test-taking strategies. This class integrates effective traditional pedagogy/methodology with the latest technology learning tools.
- Career Exploration and Focus Workshops - Career selection and pursuit are often difficult procesess for most students. To assist students, BCC provides provides student support career exploration and focus levels. Career Exploration focuses on exposing students to career options, career market demands, and career, preparation requirements. Career Focus matches careers with student talents, skills, desire, and maps a pathway for students from high school through college to the career. Career Focus also provides students a landscape of the various post-secondary options (pros and cons) to preparation to pursue a career.
- Financial Aid/Financial Literacy and Application Completion Support - Students who take BCC Test Prep classes are eligible to receive financial literacy workshops, which assists students and parents with developing long- and short-term financial aid funding strategies to cover the full cost of college. This workshop provides hands-on FAFSA completion and support, funding sources and strategies, including institutional, state, and national funding grant and scholarship sources and searches.
- Learning Communities - BCC students who attend Atlanta Metropolitan State College will receive individualized academic and student services support throughout their freshman year in College.These students will participate in Learning Communities with other students they are familiar with to form study groups, and will be assigned peer and faculty mentors to ensure successfully adaptation to college life and environment.

Programs
- Dual Enrollment - Students who successfully complete the BCC Test Prep class qualify to participate in the AMSC Dual Enrollment Program. Dual Enrollment (DE) gives high school students an advantage because DE course credits apply to both the high school diploma and the college degree, saving the student and parent significant cost of college, and expedites the completion of the College degree. It is becoming more common for students to graduate from high school with their College Associate's degree. Click here for dual enrollment requirements.
- Trailblazer Student Institute (TSI) - TSI is a premiere summer program offered by Atlanta Metropolitan State College. This program prepares students for their College freshman year. It familarizes students with the various support programs on campus. The TSI provides campus tours and connnects incoming freshman students with buildings and campus resources, so they'll be prepared and ready for day one of classes. In addition, TSI students receive life-skills training and participate in various field trips to reinforce their career goals.
