Commencement FAQ

Attire - What attire do I wear to the commencement ceremony?

Students should wear comfortable attire under their gowns. Please be aware the ceremony will be outside on a grassy area therefore appropriate shoes are recommended.

Cap (Decorate) - Can I decorate my cap?

Yes, but noting that will obstruct the view of others.

Cap and Gown Order - Where do I order my cap and gown?

Caps, gowns, and announcements are sold by the Atlanta Metropolitan State College Bookstore. For additional information, please visit atlm@textbookbrokers.com or phone 404-756-4097.

Commencement Time - What time should I arrive at commencement?

Students should plan to arrive at least one hour prior to the start of the ceremony in order to check-in. Friday, May 3rd @ 10am

Diploma (Error) - An error was made on my diploma. How do I get it corrected?

You should email the Office of the Registrar registrar@atlm.edu. A corrected diploma will be ordered for you. The $20 replacement fee will be charged if the error was yours rather than the College’s.

Diploma (Fall Graduate) - I graduated in December, when can I expect to receive my diploma?

Fall diplomas will be mailed out two to four weeks following your official graduation date. Please make sure that your address is correct in our system.

Diploma (May Graduate) - I graduated in May, when can I expect to receive my diploma?

Diplomas will be mailed two to four weeks following commencement. All diplomas will be mailed to the address on file. Please make sure your mailing address is updated in STUDENT PORTAL.

Diploma Pick-up - Can I send someone to pick up my diploma for me?

Someone may pick up your diploma by showing a pictured ID. Degrees will be mailed to the home addressed on file, two to four weeks following commencement or your official graduation date. Please make sure your mailing address is updated in STUDENT PORTAL.

Graduation Fee - Is there a graduation fee?

There is a $35 graduation fee.

Holds - What happens if I have a hold on my account?

All fines, library fees, and traffic tickets must be cleared before you receive a diploma. If you participated in a financial aid loan program, you must have an exit counseling interview. It is the petitioner’s responsibility to determine if financial obligations are assessed on their accounts.

Latin Honors - What GPA do I need to graduate with Latin Honors?

Honors are calculated on all credit hours earned at Atlanta Metropolitan State College. Honors status for the graduation commencement program are determined by grades posted as of fall semester.
Cum Laude & Honors - 3.20 - 3.49 GPA
Magna Cum Laude & High Honors - 3.50 - 3.79 GPA
Summa Cum Laude & Highest Honors - 3.80 - 4.00 GPA

Name Change - What do I do if my name changed?

Students desiring their name to display differently must submit the Name Change Request with proper supporting documents prior to printing of diplomas registrar@atlm.edu

Special Accommodations - What accommodations are made for students or guest with disabilities?

Students who need special accommodations (Americans with Disabilities Act - ADA) for the commencement ceremony may submit the Commencement Participation Confirmation Form and request the special accommodations.

Tickets - Are tickets required to attend commencement?

Yes - Each graduate will be given guest tickets. Note that commencement ceremonies will be live streamed to accommodate guests not in attendance.
