Atlanta Metropolitan State College
COMPASS is a computer-adaptive college placement test that is untimed. The three-part Exam (Math, Reading, and Writing) generally takes a minimum of two and a half hours to complete; however, any one part of the Exam may take up to 90 minutes. Photo identification (with recent photo) is required to take the COMPASS Exam.
Students with SAT or ACT scores should submit those scores to the Admissions Office before scheduling to take the COMPASS Exam. Documentation of minimum SAT (Math 400/Verbal & Critical Reading 430) or ACT (17) scores might exempt students from the COMPASS Exam.
Preparing for the COMPASS Exam
Students are strongly encouraged to prepare for the COMPASS before taking the exam as their performance will determine their ability or inability to take college level courses. The passing scores at AMSC are: Math-37; Reading-74; English-60.
Practice materials may be obtained from the Center for Academic Success located on the 3rd floor of the Library/Administration Building (BLDG.600).
