Maintaining good academic standing is critical to college success. If a student's GPA falls below AMC's acceptable levels extra time, effort, and expenses will have to be spent in order to return to good academic standing. Maintaining a study schedule, managing time, getting help with difficult courses, attending all classes, and being on time will help students to stay in good academic standing. The following table defines AMC's minimum acceptable cumulative grade-point average.

• Monitoring academic status
Not completing assignments on time, receiving low grades on assignments and exams, and struggling to keep up with classes, are signs that a student needs to seek help. When these signs are first noticed, students should meet with the Coordinator of Academic Advisement to receive an Academic Improvement Plan. Taking these steps will help students avoid earning final grads that are below the college's standards.

If a student's GPA falls below the minimum standard indicated in the above table, they will receive a letter of warning from the Vice President of Academic Affairs, recommending that you seek assistance from the Office of Academic Advisement. Students, who take the warning seriously enough to increase the number of hours they spend studying and who use the support services of the Academic Support Center, Student Support Services, the Library and other AMC support services, usually return to good academic status without going on probation.
Students are given one semester to raise their cumulative GPA to the minimum standard. If their cumulative GPA remains below the minimum standard at the end of the semester that they are on warning status, they will receive a letter from the Vice President of Academic Affairs, informing them that they are being placed on probation. If you show that you are making academic progress by raising your semester GPA to 2.0 or better, you will remain on probation until your cumulative GPA reaches the minimum standard. Being on probation is more serious than being on warning. If a student's cumulative GPA remains below the minimum standard and their semester GPA falls below 2.0, they will be placed on suspension.
Students who are on suspension are denied the opportunity to enroll for one semester. Suspended students must reapply for admissions at the end of the one-semester suspension period. After suspended students have been accepted for re-admissions, they must meet with the Coordinator of Academic Advisement before registering for classes.
Students who return from suspension, but who do not demonstrate that they are making academic progress by maintaining a semester GPA of 2.0, will be dismissed for three semesters. In order to be eligible to reapply for admissions, they must petition to the Vice President for Academic Affairs through the Coordinator of Academic Advisement. Students who are dismissed and readmitted, but who do not show academic progress will not be allowed to continue to be enrolled at AMC. |
